And then there was food, and lots of it. Well I can proudly say --- Been there done that as far as the GM diet goes but I am not proud of what I've done in the last 15 hours.
Since Midnight yesterday I have had :
* Egg bhurji Pav
* Omlete Pav
* Idli wasa Sambhar
* Half a masala Dosa
* Thali
Yes I feel satisfied but I also feel that I am being unfair. I made the body go through more shit in the last 15 hours than what I made it go through in a week. May be I should agreed with what Rupali and others had said and taken it slow.
And so to be fair will skip the snack and dinner. Will refrain any tea / cofee till tomoroow.
For now the Chinese Room dinner has been postponed.
I can proudly say that if by mistake I die today I ain't dying hungry.

GM - TV Diet Day 6 - 7
I can see light, its almost the end of this dark and horrible tunnel. A couple of more hours and I can eat anything that I want.. Huraay..
Day 6 -
I being a part of the cricket team and all was really really scared because I dint want to faint on the field, that would suck. But because the previous day was brown rice day I was confident I could pull it off. With a bowl full of brown rice told the captain that I am a 100% (heh!). When I got to the batting, shit! I was getting tired after every other ball. I was so convinced on rotating the strike as I dint want to face many balls that I ended up having a decent knock.
During the innings break they usually serve something and this time it was Idli, mehhhh! couldn't eat it. Had to live with a box of cucumber and tomatoes.
And this was Day 6 where in you are allowed brown rice and veggies. No fruits yet. By the time I reached home, all known muscles to mankind were beginning to cramp up. Not enough salt in the body, so gobbled up another portion of brown rice with some veggies. Then the feeling began to ris, the feeling of wanting to eat food. "Unbearable" is the only word which describes it best.
Beer - Chicken, Lemon Chicken - fried rice, Burger , Paneer Tikka masala and images of many more of my favorite things started to flash before me. But instead all of the above, i had to indulge myself in half a cup of black tea.. Go figure how it felt. Its sucked.
To add to the misery Rupali bought for herself a portion of Bhel and damn the smell of tamarind almost drove me over the cliff. But no, controlled my urges and finished the day with a portion of lettuce salad.
It had been 6 days and I had somehow managed to pull it off against all odds. Rupali was pretty confident that I would never be able to do this. But now she has new found faith in my determination. hehe.
Day 7 -
Now common, who wants to eat fruits and brown rice + veggies on a Sunday. Sunday's is for Idli-Wada sambhar, Sundays is for beer and chicken. Undoubtedly this was the worst day of my life.
Breakfast - Grapes
Lunch - Brown rice + veggies
Mid-snack - water melon
On day 7 you are allowed juices so had a couple of glasses of mosambi juice through the day.
Like I said today was the toughest day because the urge to eat food was unbearable. Moaned and bitched and cribbed but did not fold, I wasn't ready to give in. One more day that's all there is to it - said I to myself.
One thing is for sure I miss food much much more than I miss the tele. The tv dint matter alot towards the end, i.e yesterday and today. The thought of food overcame all other desires. :)
Its 22.30 and I believe I am allowed to eat all I want after midnight. Have had Rupali stock the snack boxes, it may sound ridiculous but I actually plan to get up at 12.00 and eat.
Tomorrow is an all new day! A week of GM diet and no TV, I'm kinda amazed at myself. Never thought I would actually be able to do it. Ya sure others do it, but ohh no not me I am the kinds that can't live without food and tv. Well apparently I CAN.
And ya as per the weighing scale I have lost 5 kgs , what was 104 is now 99. Big plans for tomorrow. Have to put all my energies into gaining these 5 kgs back.
Having spent the longest week of my life, I look forward to some real human food.

GM - TV Diet Day 5
Meh!!!!! Writing this with a very sad and heavy heart.
Day 5 is supposed to be braised beef and tomatoes and so for the vegetarians its brown rice and tomatoes.
Had early morning cricket practice today and shit I got tired really fast. Offcourse thats what will happen if you've only had milk and bananas the previous day. Survived the practice and from the looks of it, I think i might have lost +- an inch around the waist.
Rupali was claiming my face looks smaller and thinner, but then thats what happens when you don't eat food its called Malnutrition :) .
The heavy headed'ness is now gone, but then the sadness inside is growing. I was at a colleagues desk today and she had a plate full of chips on her desk, I so wanted to dig into it and enjoy the flavours, the spice, the texture. Ohhhh I miss everything about food.
Its 20:30 and I have had:
Pre-breakfast - A cup full of tomatoes with some pepper
Breakfast - Some more tomatoes and a few spoons of brown rice
FYI --- Brown rice is ridiculous I mean is not even rice, stop calling it rice. It tastes funny and makes me chew so much more than I should.
Lunch - Cup of brown rice
Snack - Some tomatoes and rice
Dinner - Not that I am very enthusiastic about it but ya some more brown rice.
Have a movie planned tonight and man-o-man am I going to miss having the popcorn.
Its been 5 days and I haven't eaten an ounce of normal food and lived without the Tele.
BOOORRRRIIINNNNGGGGGGGG, when will I have food. Have big plans for when the program
finishes, I am going to go crazy and eat the shit out everything I can.

GM - TV Diet Day 4
Yes! I survived.
It was a tough day, I mean good on the stomach no doubt about it. I wasn't feeling full and everything but then the cravings are now beginning to set it. I had gone to drop Rupali off to her swimming thing and on the way back SHIT, I wanted to eat everything. Wanted to eat the Paani Puri, the Rolls and what not. Came very close to giving up but then din't, came home ate some Cucumber and tomatoes. Called it a day.
It was difficult, to gather the courage to kinda resist the urge of giving up. But then here I am into day 4 having survived more than half of the Diet plan, why give up now. The scale shows no changes, am down 3 kgs but it is as it was on Day 3.
Again, even while typing the one thing that keeps coming to mind is that "I miss food."
Day 4 is supposed to be the yukiest of them all, mainly because you are only allowed to eat bananas and milk. And not more than 8 bananas that is. And so, I made myself a thick milkshake with 4 bananas and with the remaining 4 in my hand began the dreaded day.
Its 20.20 now and I have had :
* Breakfast - A banana ( thats right, singular.)
* Lunch - Half a glass of very thick milkshake + a banana
* Mid snack - Took a few gulps of this same milk shake
* Dinner - Have 2 bananas remaining from the ration and so am going to make some fresh milkshake out of that.
I was reading through the above and there's so much of the word "banana" in it.
Hussshhhhhh.........3 more days to go.
With very little enthusiasm, *santosh raises his fist in the air and tries to shout with a feeble voice --- Hit me harder 'GM diet' , I am still standing.

GM - TV Diet Day 3
Yeyy!!! And I am almost there, well kinda halfway there aaa actually not today. Today is day 3 of a 7 day program. Tomorrow if I survive I would have done half a Gm diet which is not all that bad for a foodie like me. The love for food now knows no bounds. hehe And ya I mean cooked, humanly eatable food.
A bowl full of lettuce is what I had for dinner imagine that. Here I consider myself a foodie and love eating food, and what did i eat for dinner Salad. I hate that word "salad" doesn't even sound right, may be we should rename it call it - nusa (derived from anus).. So ya had lettuce nusa for dinner., thts sounds about right because thats how it freaking tastes. :)
Couldn't tolerate another round of boiled veggies and hence lettuce nusa it was. Since I did not have to work I did spend a couple of hours reading which felt nice. Theodoore boone is an interesting character, someone rightly said its like reading nancy drew but the kid knows everything there is to know about Law. Way to go Mr. John Grisham.
Day 3, today I have two hour badminton sessions and I was very worried if you know this regime will make me weak. And yes it did, got tired really fast but pushed on to play the full two hours.
But because of the work out lo behold the weighing scale showed me having lost 3 kgs. Not that I am not going to gain it all back, but damn this is cool. As per the Gmdietworks website in the beginning of day 3 you will see a loss of 2-3 lbs.
And the heavy head that's just become like a thing which is always there, through out the day.
Its 17:15 now and I have had :
* Breakfast - A cup of water melon
* Mid snack - some more water melon and strawberries
* Lunch - Handful of boiled veggies + cucumber and tomatoes
* Evening snack - Some more water melon
And I feel full, I feel stuffed. But I do miss food, normal insano wala khana. Yesterday evening the office snack had kanda bhajji and i am a big big fan but no can't do. Had to do with my veggies.
And to add to that today morning breakfast in the office, freaking vada sambhar. Simply cannot resist, but no with determination I looked the other way and walked to the coffee machine to get me some black coffee.
I have this sad feeling growing inside me, when when will i get to eat normal food or will I ever be able to eat normal food again. What if the world ends tonight, shit I would have had veggies and fruits on the day I die thats pathetic.
Tomorrow is the difficult day, bananas and milk. A maximum of 8 bananas and a maximum of three glasses of milk, that's all. And did i tell you, I hate milk. I hate to the point of almost vomiting, yuk how can one drink a glass of milk with nothing in it.
The plan is to make sort of a banana milk smoothie, I really really hope I can survive tomorrow. Cuz after tomorrow its a walk in the park with the rice and all that.
Bring it on you GM diet...I am still game..

GM - TV Diet Day 2
I re-iterate WTF did I get myself into. :)
For one, I survived day 1. They say that day1 makes you feel light headed and happy, and it really was like that. Maybe I should celebrate a fruit only day regularly, I sang the entire way from office to work and has this nice happy feeling. hehe
EOD didn't feel all that bad, I had some work to do which wound by around 8.30. Took a bad ass long shower and began my reading.
Theodore Boone - The Abuction by John Grisham. This is the second book in the Theodore Boone series, theres a kid wanna be lawyer and everything. Very cool. Having read a couple of pags I had this sudden urge to going off to sleep. But then dinner was not done yet.
Haah! Dinner yesterday was a few pieces of water melon and an Orange. Thats right, an Orange, anti-plural - singular - the opposite of "a few" - just one. :)
After a sumptuous meal (#sarcasm) , began reading again simply couldn't resist and had to give into sleep.
I wonder if dieting make you feel sleepy ?
Day2 begain with a heavy head. They say this is pretty common to get a headache when you are dieting. Too bad I couldn't have a cup of my beloved coffee. Simple things like having a cup of coffee has so much more to it, it has become such an integral part of my life that I miss it and I miss it crazy.
And yes I read you are allowed to take coffee, only thing is it has to be black, no sugar and no milk. The bloody espresso, it tastes ridiculous. When I was in Japan i had seen people drink cans and cans of black cofee with nothing added to it. Thats just aarrggh... But ya the black coffee helped a little with the headache.
The diet plan for day 2 is -- All you can eat veggies, has to either raw or boiled but only veggies.
Breakfast - Roasted potato with some pepper. Rupali whipped a nice plate full of roasted baby potatoes and tomatoes and that was fairly decent. I was like haah i can eat that all day long, but correction potatoes are only for breakfast. No eating potatoes during the day, and I was shit..
For lunch mid-lunch, dinner and all other meals you are only allowed to have veggies. And so I got along a jar full of Cauliflower, beans and Onions boiled. And some sliced cucumber and tomatoes.
Its 14.10 and I just ate my boiled veggies and felt nauseating. Couldn't eat alot, but this has to be done as this is all there is for today. Ended with a slide of cucumber to get rid of the nauseating feeling.
Well, if I think about it I don't feel weak, atleast not yet. But I do miss having food, real, humanely eatable cooked food.
I believe today is going to be the hardest day, after today the body should have acclimatized itself to the reduced intake and so shouldn't be a problem.
With a little reduced enthusiasm from yesterday *santosh clasps his hand high up in the air and shouts yes i can!

GM - TV Diet Day 1
Shit! What the fuck did I get myself into.
The plan for Day1 is to only eat fruit, as much as you want but only fruits. And so to the office I bought along with me a big jar of Watermelon, in the office we have bananas and Guava. And yes one cannot eat bananas.
Its weird this feeling, I know i am not supposed to eat and that keeps bringing these food images to my mind. How wonderful will a plate full of wafers feel right now.
But no, with determination I move ahead. And infact the day hasn't been all that bad, as long as I am occupied I can stop thinking about food. And i have my personal fruit basket here with me to keep me company in these lonely times. :)
The plan after going home is to take a shower and finish up Asura. B.t.w that is one hell of a read, highly recommended. How in the heavens name of god am I not going to watch the tele.......
And ya tommorow is raw/boiled veggies with fruits day.
Bring it on you GM diet you...

The unhealty Diet plan
So ya I finally decided to do a cleansing diet, and so with a heavy heart giving up food for a week and guess what, I also plan to give up the one thing that I love the most in this forsaken world "TELEVISION".
Thats right, GM diet for a week and during this week of diet stay away from Televisiom and that includes no watching movies online or any series episodes online.
I want to call it the cleansing plan. I know dieting and all is temporary and the effects will eventually fad once I get back to my eating like a pig, but thats alright. The primary motive here is not to loose weight, but to prove to myself that I can give up something that I love. And in the process if I loose a few kilos then ya sure I will welcome that with open arms.
I am a very very strong believer in do what you really like to do, and so giving up somethng that you like is contradictory to my nature however one needs to do such things in his life to prove that I can actually finish something that i start.
Why GM diet :
Well the I have always wanted to go on a diet but I believe I don't have the heart to do it. The though of giving up food that sends shivers down my spine. This GM diet its like one of those diets which says eat as much as you want but only eat this. And theres lots of fruits involved which I think I can handle. And by the end i.e is the last two days the intake increases which means at the end of the week I will not feel starved. :)
Why No TV :
It is the one things that I love the most in the world, nothing beats the joy of sitting on your couch with your legs on the center table and munching on some chips. The one reason I end up eating so much of junk food is because of TV, a good movie absolutely needs something to eat and so in support of the GM diet no TV shall be entertained.
Also this will give me the time to catch up on my reading which off late has become non-existant.
Things to do in the week :
1. Write blogs everyday, in an attempt to put into words this feeling of not being able to eat food or watch a movie.
2. Complete the two remaining travelogues on bhp.
3. Complete Asura and Theodore Boone parts 2 and 3.
So hell ya! with enthusiasm Santosh shouts - GM diet bring it on you biyatch..

Dum Aloo Kashmiri #Disaster No. 2
Ran into another disaster, and managed to ruin not just once but twice. Here's what I was following :
http://www.sanjeevkapoor.com/kashmiri-dum-aloo.aspx
So the idea is soak them potatoes in salted water and then deep fry them, which I obviously din't have any issues in doing. Apart from splashing some hot burning oil onto my hands.
Got the fennel powder and the cardamom powder mortar-pestle'd. Whipped some yogurt, now here is the tricky part, the recipe says to the whipped yogurt add kashimiri red chilli paste, cardomom powder and fennel powder.
Now since I could not source kashmiri red chillies I used the red chilli ka techa, am not sure what that you call in english. Its like a paste of lemon juice red chillies and a whole bunch of other things. See - http://manishams.blogspot.com/2009/10/red-chilli-chutney.html.
Apparently this has lemon which I did not know and so here's what happened :
Attempt 1
Got the oil going, added the hing and the clove powder. Now this was close to getting burnt and the oil was really hot, added water to it and then the yogurt mixture. In less than 2 minutes boom!!! the yogurt had split.
Attempt 2
There was no salvaging what happened above, quickly got another round of fennel powder and cardmom powder in the mortar and pestle'd away. Now I was thinking the yogurt split cuz of the very hot pan and very hot oil.Got the yogurt mix ready. As soon as I added the clove powder and hing to the oil, took it off the heat and added the yogurt mix. Quickly added the fried potatoes to this, thinking that the potatoes will help with the splitting problem. But no that was not meant to be, the damn thing split again in two minutes.
Now here I was 10 minutes remaining for me to get ready and leave to office and I had spoilt :
1. A full box of curd
2. Two hand full portions of Fennel
3. About 15 cardomom thingies
4. About 10 Cloves
5. Around 15-18 small potatoes which were such a pain to peel
And had nothing to take with me. Disgusted decided to give up, but then the wife steps in and quickly the picks the potatoes out of the split gravy, saute's them and shoves it into the box.
So here's the what not do for the Dum aloo Kashmiri
1. South Indian Ranjak aka Mirchi cha Techa is not kashmiri red chilli
2. Dont over heat the oil if you wish to add yogurt to us. Adding yogurt and potatoes with the pan off the heat is a good idea.
3. Tone down on the Fennel powder, the recipe says take a table spoon of fennel thats alot. And if you end up like me having to only eat the potatoes then fennel is all you will taste.
And possibly don't cook at all. Order the damn dum aloo karshmiri from the around the corner restaurant.

Paneer Chilly #disaster
Never use egg's when trying to fry the paneer for the paneer chilly.
Here's what I did and this din't turn out the way I had imagined.
* Equal portions of corn flour and all purpose flour + an egg
* Dip cubes of paneer into this mix and deep fry, could also do a shallow fry. Keep aside
* Take some oil in a wok, add finely chopped ginger garlic and green chillies
* Also add a few green chillies cut logitudinally. Number of chillies depends on how spicy you want this to be.
* Add Onions let it cook for a minute, add some ginger garlic paste. Sprinkle some salt to speed up the cooking of the onions.
* Add longitudinally cut capsicum and tomatoes .
* To this add a tea spoon of Vinegar, soy sauce, and con flour mixed with some water. I had some all in one stir fry sauce from the kitchen of Ching's secret.
* Add the fried pieces of paneer, toss them well so that the sauces rightly cover the added paneer.
* Ideally add finely chopped spring onions, but since I dint have any I ended up adding coriander.
Now this turned out into a disaster, and extremely boring. The sauce turned out ok, but the paneer fried in egg batter wasn't all that great. Had a bad after taste, maybe i should go back to my original recipie of frying the paneer in conflour - maida and cold water.
Or may be I should stop cooking when having beer. :))
Don't blame me, I was following Mr Vahrevah's recipe.
